On Thursday, March 21, 2024, the annual conference of the Association of Cyprus Tourist Enterprises (STEK) was held under the theme “Tourism: New Data Require a More Competitive Model” in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kostas Koumi, ambassadors, government officials, entrepreneurs, and professionals from the hotel and broader tourism industry of Cyprus and Greece. The conference sessions covered topics such as green transition, sustainability, and resilience in tourism, the latest trends and challenges in the hospitality sector, and the role of Cypriot and Greek tourism in the economies of both countries. Prof. Phoebe Koundouri during her keynote speech highlighted the importance of non- state actors, including companies, cities, regions, financial, and educational institutions, in implementing the SDGs globally and nationally and the need for rigorous and immediate action. She also presented the AE4RIA’s framework integrating SDGs into the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Framework. The methodology consists of downscaling the UN SDSN Sustainable Development Report’s framework to corporate (private or public) level to support the transformation of the companies in line with the newly introduced Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards.
