The “Thessaloniki Sustainability Summit 2023” took place on September 5, with the primary objective of bringing together scientists, local authorities, politicians, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders to discuss a topic of global interest, Urban Sustainability.
The topic of the summit “Urban Sustainability” aligned with the Agenda-2030 and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), and more specifically SDG 11 “Sustainable Cities and Communities”, as well as the European Green Deal.
Professor Phoebe Koundouri participated in the panel discussion titled “Social and Economic Challenges of Sustainable Cities,” which was moderated by Professor G. Zarotiadis. In her presentation, she emphasized the important work of the UN SDSN Global Climate Hub and the decarbonization pathways designed for the EU-27 and Balkan countries’ energy systems. Their purpose is to provide science-based guidance for implementing national decarbonization pathways. The relevant report will be launched at COP28, UEA.
