In her keynote speech titled “The Road to Brazil: How Much Have We Achieved for the Climate So Far”, Professor Phoebe Koundouri discussed the #COP29 framework and its implications for manufacturing, innovation, and sustainable development, reflecting on the progress made and the challenges faced in addressing #climatechange. The speech was delivered at the Sustainable Manufacturing Conference, hosted by Manufacturing BOUSSIAS.
COP29, held in Azerbaijan and known as the “Finance COP,” marked significant milestones, including the establishment of a $300 billion annual climate finance goal for developing nations and a $1.3 trillion target by 2035. Key outcomes from the conference included the finalization of international carbon market standards under Article 6 and the operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund, with $730 million pledged for projects starting in 2025. Priorities at COP29 also centered on innovation, sustainable energy transitions, and the “Baku Call,” which called for climate action to build resilience in conflict-affected areas.
