Professor Phoebe Koundouri has been elected a Fellow of the International Science Council (ISC), the highest honour conferred by the Council on an individual scientist, recognising outstanding contributions to advancing science as a global public good.
The ISC brings together more than 250 scientific organisations worldwide, promoting scientific excellence, international collaboration, science diplomacy and evidence-informed policymaking.
Professor Koundouri emphasised the urgent need for transformative science to address interconnected global challenges:
“We have systems problems, but too often siloed solutions. We urgently need to reinvent the science–policy–society interface, bridge disciplines, connect knowledge with action, and co-design pathways towards a sustainable, resilient and equitable future.”
She expressed her gratitude to the ISC and its Fellowship Council, and to Katalin Solymosi, Nebojsa Nakicenovic, Ismail Serageldin, Jeffrey Sachs, Achilles Emilianides and Christos Zerefos for supporting her nomination.
