It was a great pleasure for Prof. Phoebe Koundouri to moderate an inspiring panel discussion on March 5th at the Finnish-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce Workshop, organized in collaboration with the Athens Chamber of Tradesmen and the Embassy of Finland in Greece. The event centered on women’s entrepreneurship in Greece and Finland, bringing together influential leaders from both business and politics to share valuable insights, achievements, and opportunities for cross-country collaboration.
The panel, titled “Women Entrepreneurs – Creating and Growing a Business”, explored the key factors involved in establishing and expanding woman-led businesses. Speakers included Maria Damanaki, Co-founder of Leading Women for the Ocean (LWO) and former EU Commissioner; Natassa Grigoraki, Co-founder & Director of Women Do Business; Vicky Klimi, Founder & CEO of Grandmama.gr; and Zefi Dimadama, Ph.D., Associate Professor at Panteio University.
In her remarks, Prof. Koundouri highlighted the ongoing gender imbalance, which remains significant, as reflected in various UN indicators. Drawing from the Europe Sustainable Development Report 2024/25 by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network on SDG 5 – Gender Equality, she emphasized that while progress is being made, it is essential to accelerate change. Otherwise, the pace of progress may remain too slow, potentially taking decades to achieve true gender equality.
