Prof. Phoebe Koundouri, together with esteemed colleagues Prof. Joyeeta Gupta (University of Amsterdam), Prof. Amber Wutich (Arizona State University), and Prof. Juergen Scheffran (University of Hamburg), participated in an inspiring panel at the Town Hall Meeting: Leading Perspectives on Water Security webinar by Frontiers, held on Monday, March 10th.
The panel explored solutions to one of the world’s most pressing challenges—ensuring water security through the Availability, Accessibility, Acceptability, Quality, and Governance (AAAQG) framework in the face of climate change, growing demand, and geopolitical complexities.
In Prof. Koundouri’s intervention, the role of systems innovation and data-driven governance in transforming water management was highlighted, along with the presentation of the recent paper: Systems-thinking innovations for water security (2025) published in Frontiers in Water, 6. Prof. Koundouri also referenced the SDSN Global Climate Hub, which she directs, and its mission to bridge gaps in water security by integrating advanced modeling, digital tools, and participatory methods.
