Central to Prof. Phoebe Koundouri’s research is the implementation of sustainable spatial and dynamic management of the interaction between humans and natural resources’ flows, as the only non-self-destructive path of socio-economic development. Sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Professor Koundouri presented examples of her team’s work during the last 20 years, focusing on sustainable management of inland waters, coastal and offshore waters, food-water-energy nexus, forest and biodiversity, etc. and implemented in more than 60 different countries around the globe. The output of this work has influenced policy and attracted mass media coverage all over the world. Professor Dr.Phoebe Koundouri has a PhD,MSc and MPhil on Economics from University of Cambridge(U.K).She’s a professor of Economics & Econometry focused on natural resources,energy and environment in AUEB,a visiting professor in LSE(London School of Economics),the Founder and Scientific Director of ΙCRE8: International Center for Research on the Environment and the Economy and owns the greek chair of United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network.Phoebe Koundouri is among the top 1,5% of female economists in the world,with lots of academic distinctions,published books and research publications.In the last 20 years,her research has been funded with more than 20 million euros,resulting in executed projects and in important contribution on policies’ formation all over the world.
