On April 29th, an event themed “Development and Inheritance: Dialogue Among Greek and Chinese Languages and Civilizations” to celebrate the UN Chinese Language Day was successfully held in Athens.
The event was jointly held by the Embassy of the People’s Repubic of China in the Hellenic Republic together with the Center of Greek and Chinese Ancient Civilizations, to provide a platform to scholars from the two countries to share their wisdom and knowledge on topics of Ancient and Modern language studies, the Origin of the Civilizations, the Sustainable Development global civilization initiative,etc.
Through speeches and mini lectures, scholars of the two countries held dialogues on various topics.
Professor Phoebe Koundouri was invited to give a speech on “Ancient Wisdom and Sustainable Development: Ethics for the 21st Century”. During her speech she referred to the “Aristotle-Confucius Symposium on Ethics for the 21st Century” which will be held for the third consecutive year in Greece, Athens – Thessaloniki, from July 3 to 8, 2023. The Aristotle–Confucius Symposium will bring together top scholars from China, Greece, and other parts of the world, to explore how we can help to build a new global ethics for the 21st century, one that addresses global challenges while drawing on the ancient wisdom of China and Greece. The principal guides will be Aristotle and Confucius, although the participants will explore a range of classical philosophical thought and distinctive schools.
