An exciting and inspiring three-day visit 28-30 April 2025 at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), where the AE4RIA team had the pleasure of hosting Prof. Dr. Phoebe Koundouri’s colleagues from the DTU – Technical University of Denmark, Department of Technology, Management and Economics DTU Management – Energy Economics and Modelling Division.
Over the course of the visit, we showcased the work we’ve been doing across climate, energy, finance, and innovation. From the AE4RIA team, Prof. Dr. Phoebe Koundouri and Dr. Ebun Akinsete (PhD) provided an overview of our activities, Dr. Konstantinos Dellis presented our land use and climate adaptation models, Chris Deranian highlighted our marine modelling, Dr. Ioannis Arampatzidis focused on energy systems analysis, Dr. Conrad Landis discussed work in sustainable finance and ESG metrics, and Lydia Papadaki introduced the maritime innovation initiatives.
From the DTU team, Prof. Dogan Keles presented DTU’s work on energy economics and modelling, Prof. Ramazan SARI examined the social dimensions of energy transitions, and Prof. Marie Münster delivered two compelling talks — one on energy systems analysis using the Balmoral tool, and another on the future of alternative fuels in maritime transport.
On the day two of the visit centered around the high-level conference “Shaping Europe’s Sustainable Energy Future with Hydrogen.” Prof. Koundouri delivered an opening keynote that set the tone for a powerful lineup of speakers. DTU’s presence was strong throughout the day: Prof. Marie Münster addressed the uncertainties in developing Power-to-X (PtX) technologies, Theis Utoft Madsen presented research on renewable energy and biomass for fuel production, and Dr. Ioannis Kountouris offered valuable insights into the market dynamics of renewable hydrogen and ammonia in Europe. The day concluded with a panel discussion featuring Prof. Dogan Keles, who shared expertise from DTU’s modelling work.
On the final day, AE4RIA shifted its focus toward what lies ahead. Colleagues from AE4RIA, DTU, and the University of Cambridge came together to explore opportunities for future collaboration. Dr. Dimitris Raptis, AE4RIA’s proposals coordinator, led a presentation on the research pipeline and outlined new strategies for developing joint initiatives.
