About eight years are left to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the Agenda 2030. While the path towards their achievement was already difficult, it is now even more obstructed due to the devastating consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. Currently, no country is on the right track, and time is running out.
FES New York hosted this online round table, where Members of the European Parliament discussed with experts

During the discussion, the speakers evaluated where we stand with the implementation of the SDGs and what the way forward could be – also after 2030. The speakers also addressed the possible effects of the geopolitical shifts caused by the war in Ukraine. Will there be new opportunities for the Global South to achieve the SDGs after the war? What can be done to boost implementation efforts until 2030 and support countries in need?
Michael Bröning, Executive Director of FES New York, and Udo Bullmann, Member of the European Parliament and S&D Coordinator in the Development Committee jointly moderated the debate.
