On Tuesday, 22 November 2022 took place the hybrid Roundtable “Peace, resources and the environment” at Salone Apollo, Rectorship of the University of Brescia | Piazza del Mercato, 15, Brescia, Italy.
This event is part of the IAERE10 TOUR, for the tenth anniversary of the Italian Association of Environmental and Natural Resources Economists. The IAERE10 TOUR is a series of online webinars, web-streamed, hybrid or in person seminars, round-tables in environmental and resource economics and other similar initiatives, to promote research and knowledge creation and diffusion among environmental economics scholars
The event organized within the Festival of Peace, promoted by the Municipality of Brescia, and the 10th Year Anniversary of IAERE (Italian Association of Enviromental and Resource Economists) event series. It is also supported by EAERE ( European Association of Enviromental and Resource Economists), Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei, ISEO Institute.
The panel discussion aimed to analyze through an economic perspective the complex relationship between peace, resources and the environment. Resource availability and climate dynamics are pivotal elements both in the emergence of conflict and in fostering periods of geopolitical and economic prosperity. Understanding how these factors influence and support the continuation of peace or can destabilize it is critical in order to be able to devise an ethical and effective development model.
